By Design, We Lead
There is a quiet moment at the start of every project- before the permits, before the blueprints, before a single decision has been made where a client sits across from a designer and says, I know what I want, I just don't know how to get there. That moment is everything.
Interior designers are the leaders of the construction process, though the industry has not always framed it that way. Because design, at its core, is not about furniture or finishes. It is about helping someone realize a vision they can feel but cannot yet articulate. It is about listening deeply, seeing clearly, and then leading with intention. That is not so different from what a great coach does.
Long before a contractor breaks ground, a designer has already mapped the entire journey. We are directing the trades, coordinating the timelines, making the selections that every other professional on the project will build around. The cabinet maker, the tile setter, the electrician are all working from a foundation that design laid first. We are not the finishing touch. We are the throughline.
At BMD, this is simply how we work. As principal designer, I approach every project as both a creative and a leader, holding the vision of the whole while managing every moving part with care and precision. This is unvarying in a process that involves many hands, and clients never have to wonder who is steering the ship.
But the role goes beyond the project itself. I believe great design changes the way you live, and guiding someone through that transformation, helping them trust their instincts, make confident decisions, and ultimately arrive somewhere that feels deeply right, is its own kind of coaching. It is work that requires not just an eye for beauty, but a genuine investment in the person on the other side.
At its best, design leads someone home.
